Recursive Agency Cognition for Autonomous Robotics

Rapid Modular Web introduces the FOX Agency Cognition Model (FACM), a recursive systems architecture for representing goal, authorized agency, predicted consequence, observed reality, discrepancy and evidence-backed model revision. FACM grew from the systems theory developed in Insight and has now been converted into a modern computational architecture through the FOX Platform.

The engineering hypothesis is deliberately testable: an autonomous system that explicitly models its own causal agency, predicts the effects of action, distinguishes goal error from prediction error, and revises its self/world model from evidence should demonstrate stronger adaptive cognition under uncertainty than an otherwise comparable system without that explicit agency model.

01 · THEORY

Agency as a recursive system

The model formalizes an agent as a causal participant that acts from an internal representation, meets a reality it does not wholly control, and incorporates the difference between prediction, intention and result into the next cognitive state.

02 · ENGINEERING

Designed for experimentation

The paper maps FACM to contemporary robotics practice as a supervisory cognition layer above existing perception, planning and control systems rather than a replacement for SLAM, MPC, reinforcement learning or low-level control.

03 · IMPLEMENTATION

First implemented in FOX

FOX Brain provides the first software implementation of FACM as the governing agency-cognition sub-loop within the Sigmund mission cycle, while preserving independent execution, security and mission authority.

Research Contribution

Publish the principle. Demonstrate the implementation.

This release provides the mathematical architecture, robotics mapping and experimental framework needed for independent technical evaluation. It intentionally omits proprietary FOX implementation details that are not required to reproduce the scientific experiment.

Preprint status: This document is an RMW engineering preprint released for technical discussion and experimental use. It has not been represented as peer-reviewed. FACM does not assert artificial consciousness; it defines an explicit, testable architecture for agency-aware cognition in autonomous systems.
